Taking the Mission to Campus: Our Day at UCLA

Looking back at our work, it’s always the moments where we get to meet people face-to-face that feel the most significant. Back in March 2023, we took that mission to the heart of UCLA’s campus, and it remains one of those days that really defined our early drive to make an impact.

Our team at the UCLA campus back in March 2023, where we spent the day educating students and successfully recruiting 50 new potential donors to the bone marrow registry.

Making It Real

The energy on a college campus is just different. We arrived that day with a handful of flyers, a lot of enthusiasm, and a simple goal: to make the process of joining the bone marrow registry feel approachable and straightforward.

For many of the students we talked to, the idea of being a donor was something they hadn’t considered simply because they didn’t know how easy it was to sign up. Being able to walk them through the process—from those first instructions on our flyers to the final registration steps—made a world of difference. It wasn’t just about handing out paper; it was about having real, meaningful conversations about the chance to save a life.

The Impact

By the time we wrapped up, we were thrilled to have helped about 50 new donors join the registry--while 50 might sound like a number on a page, to us, it represents 50 potential lifelines for someone in need. It was a day of connection, learning, and realizing that if you just show up and start the conversation, people are incredibly willing to step up for others.

That trip to UCLA was a great reminder that our work is all about reaching people where they are. We left campus that day feeling inspired, knowing that those 50 people had just become a part of something much bigger than themselves.
